The NEO is the small end of the handheld range, and the only one with no moving parts. A dome sensor rather than a rotating head.

No moving parts is the point

A rotating scanner has a bearing, and a bearing on a handheld that lives in a truck and gets carried round a site is the thing that eventually fails. The dome removes it. It also makes the unit smaller and lighter, which matters more than it sounds when you are on hour three of walking a site.

1.15 million points per second across a 360 by 189 degree field of view, with two 12 MP cameras for spherical imagery and colorization.

Same instrument, and $3,500 separates them. The difference is the LP360 Land license tier, perpetual either way, with annual maintenance from year two.

Handhelds are easy to specify badly, because the honest answer often depends on what you are walking through rather than what you are measuring. Describe the site and we will tell you which channel count you need.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does the CPS Protection Plan cover?

The CPS Protection Plan covers full parts and labor for internal hardware failure, along with Accidental Damage Protection. This plan is intended for recreational and commercial drones. A deductible applies at the time of claim.

What doesn't the CPS Protection Plan cover?

This contract does not cover the first 30 days from date of purchase. This contract does not cover lost or stolen products, or any add-on accessories.

Does the CPS Protection Plan protect against crashes?

Yes. The CPS Protection Plan covers physical damage, impact damage, water damage, excessive damage, and crash-related incidents.

Does this plan cover commercially used drones?

Yes, this plan covers both recreational and commercial drones.

Are the camera and gimbal covered?

Yes. If the camera or gimbal is included in the box from the manufacturer, it is covered under the CPS Protection Plan.

Are batteries covered?

No. Batteries are considered consumables and are not covered.

Will the CPS Protection Plan cover propellers?

Replacing a drone's propellers is considered maintenance and is not covered under warranty. Propellers are user-replaceable parts. Depending on the manufacturer, it is recommended to replace propellers if you notice a change in flight performance or experience noisy or unbalanced flight.

When does coverage begin?

The CPS Protection Plan begins on the end user's purchase date. There is a 30-day claims hold to prevent DOAs or manufacturer defects. Coverage begins on day 31. Any claims that occur during the first 30 days are not covered.

If I lose my drone, can the warranty be transferred to a new one?

Unfortunately, no. If a unit is lost, the warranty coverage is voided.

How is the deductible determined?

The deductible is based on the value of the drone covered under the contract. For units under $250, the deductible can be as low as $30. For units under $3,500, the deductible is $250. Please see chart below or on FAQ tab for full pricing and deductible information.

How do I file a claim?

Claims can be filed by phone, email, through your CPS Client Care account, or via chat on the CPS website. You will need to submit:

  • CPS Membership ID number
  • Drone serial number
  • Copy of purchase receipt

How many claims can I file?

You may file unlimited claims during the warranty period. Coverage will end once total repair costs reach the original purchase price of the drone.

Who will repair my drone? Is there anywhere I can bring it locally for service?

After the deductible payment is made, you will be directed to ship your drone. The Drone Nerds program includes prepaid shipping to CPS's depot repair facility. Once received, depending on the manufacturer, the drone will either be repaired by an in-house Drone Repair Center or sent directly to the manufacturer. At this time, local repairs are not permitted, as we must be able to control the quality of the repair.

Will my coverage continue after repairs to my drone?

Yes. Coverage will remain in place until the contract expires, unless the drone is replaced under warranty.

Does the CPS Protection Plan coverage transfer to the replacement drone?

Unfortunately, no. Once the drone is replaced, the CPS Protection Plan contract is considered fulfilled. You may purchase a new CPS Protection Plan for the replacement unit.

Why Drone Insurance Matters – And Where to Get It

Flying a drone can be exciting and rewarding—but it also comes with risks. While drone insurance isn't always legally required, it’s highly recommended to protect yourself, your equipment, and others around you. Whether you’re flying for fun, professional photography, or commercial inspections, having the right insurance offers peace of mind and may be required by clients or job sites.

💡 Why You Should Consider Drone Insurance

🔹 Liability Coverage
Protects you financially if your drone causes property damage or injury to others.

🔹 Damage Protection
Covers repair or replacement costs if your drone is damaged due to crashes, hard landings, or environmental hazards.

🔹 Theft Coverage
Helps recover losses if your drone or gear is stolen.

🔹 Client & Regulatory Compliance
Many commercial projects, job sites, and government contracts require proof of insurance before allowing flight operations.

🔹 Peace of Mind
Know you’re covered—legally and financially—so you can focus on flying with confidence.

🛡️ Types of Drone Insurance
